Enviro-Equipment, Inc. Adds Infrared Camera Rental for Energy Auditing and Building Diagnostics

Due to increasing demand for infrared camera rentals for residential energy auditing and building diagnostics, Enviro-Equipment, Inc. adds the Testo 875-2i Infrared Camera to its inventory. The camera exceeds BPI/RESNET performance requirements for thermal imagers.

Enviro-Equipment, Inc., a provider of environmental equipment rentals and supplies, expands its inventory to the residential energy auditing and building diagnostics industries with the addition of the new Testo 875-2i Infrared Camera for thermal imaging. With this technology a user can discover energy loss, weak spots, and anomalies in buildings quickly and damage-free. Building inspectors use the Testo 875-2i to test heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, to pinpoint roof leaks, to identify mold risk areas, and discover pipe rupture without opening floors and walls to pinpoint the leak.

According to Rand Ratterree, Enviro-Equipment's Branch Manager, "We chose the Testo 875-2i over other brands and models of handheld cameras because it exceeds The Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Residential Energy Services NETwork (RESNET) for energy auditing performance requirements for thermal imagers. The Testo has a higher image resolution, longer operation time, advanced reporting software, and an integrated digital camera. It is also rugged and easy to use, even for beginners."

Laboratory Testing Inc. Now Performs Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy

Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) continues to expand its line of materials testing services with the recent addition of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) services. FTIR is an analytical technique used to identify organic, polymeric, and in some cases, inorganic materials. LTI is performing the analyses with a high-tech Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS10 FT-IR spectrometer.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis results in an absorption spectra which provides information about the chemical bonds and molecular structure of a material. Absorbance peaks provide information that can be used to identify the general types of material being analyzed. The analytical spectrum can be compared with cataloged reference spectra to identify base polymers and additives.

FTIR analysis compliments the wide-range of instrumental and wet chemistry services performed in the Chemistry Lab at LTI for materials characterization and failure analysis. In addition to identification of polymers by FTIR, qualitative and quantitative element analysis, even at trace levels, is available for a variety of materials including metals, powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites and ceramics. Laboratory Testing Inc. is fully capable of preparing test specimens for all analysis.

About Laboratory Testing Inc.
Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) of Hatfield, PA has been in business since 1984. The company specializes in materials testing, specimen machining, failure analysis, dimensional inspection and calibration services. The lab is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by PRI/Nadcap and A2LA, which complies with and exceeds the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.

Chemical, mechanical, metallurgical and nondestructive testing are performed on metals found in fasteners, tubing, pipe, barstock, plates, castings and other products. The chemistry lab performs ICP-Mass spectroscopy, ICP-AES spectroscopy, Direct Reading AES, trace element analysis, SEM-EDS and corrosion testing and also analyzes powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites, plastics and ceramics. Mechanical testing covers tensile, hardness, charpy V-notch, stress rupture, proof load, bend, yield strength and more.

Quintessential Asset Management: The Road to Reliability-centered Maintenance

Asset-management programs and software are getting a lot of press these days. Every maintenance engineer and his site manager are writing a white paper and/or book about the value of asset management to a company’s bottom line. There are measuring tools and concepts galore, all intended to provide an instantly successful maintenance process. Much of this content makes achieving reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and condition-based maintenance (CBM) sound relatively easy and commonplace. This fosters a misguided concept that RCM and CBM are commodities that can be purchased and implemented in short order.

In order to explain how to gauge where a company’s maintenance program stands and where its goals need to ultimately lie, we need another catch phrase that is all encompassing of the total maintenance-management-process approach and ultimate goal. How does Quintessential Asset Management (QAM) sound?

In this article, I’ll outline the five levels of asset-management development a company usually passes through leading to more advanced processes such as CBM and RCM to eventually achieve QAM.

Condition-Based Maintenance?

A condition-based program can be incorporated into the maintenance program in order to garner value by doing less replacement before failure and requiring less preventative-maintenance hours. We’ve discussed oil sampling and infrared thermography, which can be relatively inexpensive. Some other prevalent types include vibration monitoring and analysis, ultrasonic noise detection and non-destructive testing. These are all areas that require specific expertise and assessment on their potential value before implementing.
